Common vanilla, oak, caramel and spice notes carry less weight. Explicit preferences still guide your results.
A bottle dislike applies to that expression by default. Peat, smoke and medicinal character are separate. Ownership is never a taste signal. No popularity, price or purchase history is used.
Scoring & evidence limits Explicit preferences add 3 points and “prefer less” subtracts 4. Opt-in expression clues are weaker and common notes are downweighted. Character likeness uses weighted overlap across both descriptions; unmatched notes are gaps in overlap, not evidence of absence. Missing or conflicting traits never become hard facts. Hard exclusions only pass explicit absence.
Close matches need character overlap, at least three comparable dimensions and support from at least two other dimensions. Strong likeness additionally requires broad coverage and no indexed material contrast. Categories are not exclusion rules: cross-category comparisons can qualify when the evidence supports them. Interesting departures need a shared thread plus a documented distinction; they do not inherit the close-match label.
Spirit base, casks, strength and texture are separately sourced. Strength similarity declines with the ABV difference; it does not measure perceived heat or body. Thresholds are editorial, not trained or calibrated. Missing dimensions limit the label; no numerical confidence or tasting-distance percentage is claimed.
